A very diverse Bedfordshire team lost against both Cambridgeshire (comprehensively) and Suffolk (narrowly) in the county double-header at Newmarket on Sunday 8th February. The gradings ranged from 215 (Peter Constantinou) on top board to 92 (Ben Pike) on board 16. I know Sunday’s a tough day for lots of people but can’t help think we should be able to field a stronger team! (no offence to the captain who I realise has a thankless task trying to mobilise support).
Bedford contributed a number of players:-
- Bd 4 – Paul Habershon ½/2 – solid in morning, unlucky from my view in time trouble in afternoon
- Bd 8 – Steve Pike 1½/2 – got very lucky, significantly worse in both games around move 20
- Bd 11 – Nick Collacott 1/1 – confused his opponent in a tactical battle, won 2 pawns and then won on time
- Bd 13/15 – Gerry Nolan 1½/2 – looked very smooth, great effort – see his win here
- Bd 15/16 – Ben Pike 0/2 – two long fought games against much higher graded opponents
