The long awaited derby between Bedford C and D got off to a rocky start for the D team as after “Playing like a numpty” (in his own words) for 20 moves, Jeremy was mated. We got back up one as Neil had a good win against Gerry, leaving the scores level. They stayed that way for the next two games. John eventually accepting Peter’s second offer of a draw, although he thought Peter was up, and Anthony getting his first points of the year in a draw against Mac.
And so it all came down to me, a heroic performance from the captain needed. Unfortunately I didn’t deliver. After a long fought game against peter, I went from 2 pawns up to a piece down after missing a fork, and lost the ensuing endgame. And so the C team won the battle.
Bring on the rematch!
