Bedford A still await their first win after Luton overturned a huge grading deficit and very nearly won the match.
Andy made no impression against steady play on Board 5 and eventually drew a minor piece ending.
Mike and Paul built up strong advantages but Mike went wrong and eventually lost (see below). Damon, with only two minutes left for his last fifteen moves to the time control, wriggled resourcefully and had awkward threats when a piece down. Paul then got behind on time in the quickplay finish, gave the piece back and should have lost. Damon missed the killer punch, exchanged into an a rook and pawn ending a pawn up but then allowed Paul active play which more than equalised.
By this time Mindaugas after arriving with ten minutes gone on his clock, had won, so Paul, with only two minutes left, accepted a draw offer in the hope that Steve would grind out a win in the rook ending on Board 2.
However, Luton captain Mike Joseph refused to be swindled and Steve eventually had to offer the draw.
