Neil used his experience as a former gambiteer to find a ‘refutation’ to the Milner Barry gambit, which he once played, to grab the only win of the team in a fine show on board 1.
John turned down a draw but eventually went into a lost endgame a tempo down and lost.
Jeremy buckled under pressure on the c file and went a piece down. A little play was gained for it but seemingly not enough.
I went 2 passed pawns up in the middle game but a couple of rash moves in the end let my opponent back in and he found a draw by repetition.
Anthony played well but unfortunately lost to a stronger opponent.
Bedford D is still without a win, but games are getting closer, and with some new blood on the bench, don’t count us out yet.
