Bedford C 2-3 Open University

On board 1 Peter Clarke and Marc Obi reached a symmetrical king and pawn ending with 5 pawns each, where whoever was to move lost (mutual zugzwang). Unfortunately, it was Marc to move. On two, Joe Valerio and James Alexander fought out a long, interesting battle, with James coming out on top. On three Peter Gill sacced a pawn against George Ward and finished off with a neat mate. The OU defaulted board 4 when Lau Gainpaulsingh failed to arrive, causing Nigel Staddon to spend the evening twiddling his thumbs. And on five, Peter Housden looked better for most of the game. I didn’t see how Dave Phillips came out on top in the end.
