A close run thing!
John Harbour opted not to play for the D team, in a spirit of sympathy with the C team’s poor recent results. It all started well, with each of the C team looking solid. Then Giuseppe succumbed to a sharp attack from Qais. Peter H had a good game, ending with a pretty mate via a pawn and Rook. I had a strong position, but got careless, lost a pawn which neutered the attack, with Neil finishing the game off well. Then Nigel had a long drawn out ending with opposite bishops, but enough extra pawns to ensure a win. So it came down to Peter G. He had the advantage of the exchange and a pawn, though he did try to give his advantage away, but ended up with a clearly won position and Ben resigned.
So a success in the end, but the D team seems to be the only one we’re capable of beating this season!
