Congratulations to Alan Heath of Milton Keynes Chess Club, who last night on BBC 2 became the 2016 Mastermind Champion.
I only caught the last few minutes, where Alan won in a tie-break because he knew that the Manic Street Preachers were Welsh and the name of at least one lock on the Manchester Ship Canal. So I didn’t see whether his specialised subject was “Losing Against Neil Hickman’s French Defence.”
John
I remember playing Alan many years ago, in fact it was around the same time a certain Ledger brother appeared on countdown, and when I asked him about it, he duly made note of how unglamorous it was.
This is brilliant! – well done Alan who’s coolness in time trouble clearly stands him in very good stead. His specialist subject is Thunderbirds! (and I have tried to work up a Brains/Neil gag but it’s just too early in the morning).
You can relive it all (including seeing the inside of Alan’s house!) by following this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b07640lx/mastermind-20152016-31-grand-final
