In Division 1, Marc beat Ravi to maintain his slim but real chance of taking the club championship in his first season in the top flight. UPDATE – since then, Mike has beaten Alex which I believe means that it is now a two horse race. If Mike now beats Steve, Mike wins*. If Steve beats or draws with Mike, Steve wins*.
In Division 2, Joe and Steve drew, Peter beat Ben and Gerry beat Tony. This pretty much sets up Qais and Joe as the promotees and the champion will be decided by their upcoming final game*.
In the Editor’s game against the Tournament Controller, major controversy was averted when Ed played his 35th move and offered a draw stating “and that’s the 35th move”. The TC, in time trouble (surely not!) with a couple of minutes to go, let his clock run down before accepting the offer. During the post-game analysis, it transpired that a move had been missed from the sole operational scoresheet – consequently, during consideration of the draw offer, a win on time claim might have been successful, although continued club membership may have been more challenging!
