Leighton Buzzard B 2½ – Bedford D 2½

Neil Hickman 0 – Brian Valentine 1
Neil won a pawn and had king-side threats, but Brian kept setting him problems and forced Kf1 entombing the h1 rook. Suddenly it was all over.
John Harbour 1 – Barry Saunders 0
I grabbed a pawn in the centre and lost two on the Q-side. We entered a RBB (me) vs RBN endgame with a 4-3 K-side majority for me and a 2-0 connected Q-side majority for him. My plan was to grovel for a draw, which I offered him. A few moves later my pieces were ruling the position and I was winning. I’ve no clear idea how this happened.
Ben Pike ½ – Andre Eggenhoffner ½
Ben sacced a pawn at move 3 (what’s new?) and enjoyed himself chasing his opponent’s pieces around. A couple of hours later he won the pawn back and they agreed a draw.
Mac McKenzie 0 – Tony Readman 1
Not sure what happened here. The first time I looked at it Mac was a piece down and being crushed. He resigned soon after.
Board 5 – they defaulted.
Thanks to Alex who had kindly agreed to become our board 1 and then was dropped at the last moment when I read their email saying that they only had four players.
