In the absence of Chris Ross, I had a good game against Branko He played quickly and as usual I was soon too far behind on the clock but found a way of exchanging my bad bishop for his good one and he went into a bishop v knight ending which by moving very quickly I held without too many alarms – it may have even been better for me, but no time!
Alex and Eva had a fairly dull draw.
Richard took a gambit pawn in the opening and held onto it. A slow pawn advance led to the expected victory.
Neil calmly organised his defences against a sacrificial mating attack that came to nothing.
Joe’s opponent blundered a rook early on.
So we now have 5 points, certainly enough to keep us up now that the rules are “1 up, 1 down”. The next aim is to finish above Luton.
