Bedford C back on track

Bed C v MK C

For the first time this season we played a team with a lower average grading and the win gives us four wins out of eight so far. MK C defaulted on board 5, which helped a lot, although I’d had to call on Marc Obi as a reserve following Mac being unable to play.
Nigel finished first with a solid draw and this was followed by Marc’s straightforward win, after initiating a nasty looking attack. So at least a drawn match at that stage. My game was interesting . I allowed a sacrifice of two pieces for the exchange and two pawns, as I thought it would give me the advantage, with two Bishops and open lines against his King. Sadly, just as things were getting interesting, he sacrificed back the rook for two pieces, leaving me with a two pawn deficit and he was able to swap Queens, leaving a lost game. Well played by Dave. So the result depended on Peter G. He played a really effective game and rounded it off with a lovely mating combination – very pretty and a great win for the team. So it looks like we’re headed for mid-table with two matches to complete.
